You set up your listing, searched for your business and found nothing. If your Google Business Profile not showing on Google Maps or in local search is the problem, you are not alone. Most cases come down to a handful of causes: the profile is not verified, it has been suspended, the details do not match, or there is a duplicate. This guide walks through each one and what to do.
First, check how you are searching
Before you assume there is a fault, test properly:
- Search for your exact business name, plus your area, such as "your business name Kothrud Pune".
- Open Google Maps on your phone and type the name there.
- Sign in to the Google account that manages the profile and open business.google.com. If the profile is listed, its status is shown.
Searching for a general phrase like "dentist near me" will not always show you, even if the profile is healthy, because Google ranks results by relevance, distance and prominence. Name searches are the right test for whether a profile exists and is visible.
Google Business Profile not showing: common causes and fixes
1. The profile is not verified
New profiles usually need to be verified before they appear properly. Verification confirms that you are connected to the business. Depending on your business and location, Google may offer a postcard, a phone call or text, an email or a video.
Fix: open your profile, look for a "Get verified" or verification prompt and follow the options offered. Use accurate details and follow the instructions exactly. If you requested a postcard, wait for it to arrive and enter the code. Do not keep requesting new codes, as that can slow things down.
2. The profile has been suspended
If the dashboard shows a suspension notice, the profile may be hidden from Maps and Search. Suspensions usually follow a policy problem, such as a business name with extra keywords, a virtual or unstaffed address, a mismatch in details or a service that does not follow the guidelines.
Fix: read Google's guidelines for representing your business, correct anything that breaks them (name, address, category, website), and then submit a reinstatement request through the official process. Be honest and give clear, accurate information and proof of the business if asked.
3. The wrong or missing category
The primary category tells Google what you are. A wrong category can keep you out of the searches you want.
Fix: choose the primary category that best matches your main service, then add a few secondary categories that are accurate. Do not pick categories that describe things you do not offer.
4. Address problems
Google may not show a profile if the address looks wrong, cannot be matched to a real location or is a place where you are not present. A shared office or home address needs careful handling, and a service-area business can hide the address and show the areas served instead.
Fix: use your real, complete address with the correct pin code, move the map pin to the right spot and keep it the same as on your website and other listings. If you travel to customers, set up a service area as the guidelines allow.
5. Duplicate listings
If an old listing exists for the same place, such as one created by a previous owner, Google can merge them or show one in place of the other.
Fix: search for your business and nearby addresses to find duplicates. Claim the one you should keep, and use the official option to mark the other as a duplicate or request ownership. Do not create a fresh profile to get around the problem.
6. Incomplete profile
A profile with no phone number, hours, description or photos looks unfinished and may be less useful to searchers.
Fix: fill in every section: hours, phone, website, services, a short description and real photos of your premises and work.
7. Reviews and prominence
If your profile appears for name searches but not for general ones, it may simply rank lower than competitors. Reviews, activity and a clear website all help.
Fix: ask real customers for honest reviews, reply to every one, post updates and keep your details consistent across the web. Never buy reviews, as this breaks the rules and can get a profile removed.
8. Recent edits under review
Changes to a name, address or category can be reviewed before they go live. During that time a profile may be limited.
Fix: wait a few days after major edits, and avoid making repeated changes in quick succession.
How to contact Google Business Profile support
If you have been through the steps above and the profile is still missing, use the official Help Centre at support.google.com/business. Search the articles for your problem (verification, suspension, duplicates) and use the contact option offered there for your case. Options can change, and not every problem gets a phone or chat option. Only use support links that sit on google.com, and be careful of sites or phone numbers that claim to be "Google customer care", as these are often scams.
When you contact support, have ready: the business name, address, phone number, the Google account that manages the profile, a photo of the storefront or signboard, and any documents that prove the business exists.
A quick checklist
- Search by exact name and area on phone Maps.
- Open the dashboard and check for verification or suspension notices.
- Confirm the name, category and address follow the guidelines.
- Look for duplicates.
- Complete every section and add real photos.
- Collect genuine reviews and respond to them.
- Use the official Help Centre if the problem continues.
