SEO packages in India: what you should and should not get
What a monthly SEO package should include, what to avoid, how to spot fake guarantees and how local SEO differs from national.

Search for SEO packages in India and you will find monthly plans at wildly different prices, all promising "first page rankings". It is hard to know what you are paying for. This guide explains what a sensible monthly SEO package should include, what should make you walk away and how local and national SEO differ.
What SEO actually is
Search engine optimisation is the work of making your website easy for search engines to understand and useful for the people who find it. It combines technical set-up, content, local details and reputation. It is ongoing work, not a one-time job, and results take time. Anyone who promises overnight success is selling something else.
What good SEO packages should include
1. A starting audit
Every package should begin with a proper look at your website: crawl errors, page speed, mobile problems, missing titles, duplicate pages, broken links and indexing issues. You should receive a plain-language list of what was found and what will be fixed. You can run a quick version yourself with our free SEO check.
2. Keyword and search research
The agency should find out what your customers actually type, then map those searches to pages on your site. If you are a dentist in Kothrud, the useful searches are different from those for an exporter in Pune. Ask to see the list and the reasoning.
3. On-page optimisation
This means clear page titles and descriptions, sensible headings, good internal links, image descriptions and content that answers real questions. Done well, it makes each page's purpose obvious.
4. Technical SEO
A fast site, a working sitemap, a correct robots file, secure HTTPS, structured data and clean mobile layouts. These are the foundations. Without them, content work gives weaker results.
5. Content creation or guidance
Useful pages and articles are how most sites earn visibility over time. A package should say how many pieces are included each month, who writes them, and who approves them. Be wary of "unlimited" content that is thin and copied.
6. Local SEO for local businesses
If customers come from a particular area, the package should include your Google Business Profile, consistent name, address and phone details across the web, local pages and review guidance. Our Google Business Profile service covers this part.
7. Link and reputation work, done honestly
Mentions from genuine, relevant sites help. Bulk directory submissions and bought links do not, and can cause harm. Ask exactly how links are earned.
8. Clear monthly reporting
You should see a report that shows what was done and what happened, using your own Google Search Console and Google Analytics data, not just a spreadsheet of rankings. Reports should be in plain language, with next steps.
What a package should not include or promise
- Guaranteed rankings. No agency controls Google. A promise of "top 3 in 30 days" is not honest.
- Secret methods. Good SEO can be explained simply.
- Thousands of low-quality backlinks or directory spam.
- Copied or auto-generated pages published in bulk.
- Keyword stuffing that makes your pages awkward to read.
- Lock-in with no exit, or a contract that keeps the work (and your website access) in the agency's hands.
How to spot a fake guarantee
Real SEO has uncertainty, because search engines change and competitors keep working too. Be suspicious when you see:
- "Rank number one or your money back" with no detail on which search and for how long
- Guarantees for broad terms with heavy competition
- Rankings quoted for searches nobody makes
- Screenshots from your own location that do not reflect what other people see
An honest agency talks about what it will do, what it will measure and what you can reasonably expect, rather than promising a position.
Local SEO versus national SEO
Local SEO is for businesses that serve a place: a clinic in Pune, a coaching institute in Ahilyanagar, a restaurant, a shop. The focus is on Google Maps, your business profile, reviews, local pages and consistent contact details. It is usually faster to see movement and cheaper than national work.
National SEO is for businesses that serve customers anywhere in India, such as an online store or a software company. It means competing for broader searches against bigger sites, so it needs more content, stronger authority and more patience. The two are different jobs and should be priced differently. Many businesses need local SEO first.
Questions to ask before you buy a package
- What is included each month, listed item by item?
- Will I get access to my own Search Console, Analytics and Business Profile?
- How do you earn links, and can you show examples?
- Who writes the content, and do I approve it?
- How long is the minimum contract, and how do I leave?
- What results would you consider realistic, and over what period?
Is monthly SEO right for you?
Not every business needs a long monthly retainer. A new website may need a one-time clean-up and a Google Business Profile first. A competitive business needs sustained effort. Start with an audit, decide which fixes matter most, and then choose the level of ongoing support. You can read more about how we approach this on our SEO service page.
